We grew up playing Lacrosse together in Easton, Maryland and have been best friends since we captained our 7th-8th grade team to a Championship Season. We even found a picture of us hoisting the trophy. Yeah it's blurry but hey, it was the 90's - cut us some slack...
Between us, we have over 40 years of lacrosse experience and over a decade coaching. Skyler was an All-American Midfielder at Middlebury College while Banks played Defense for the University of Colorado. When we're not on the Catch! field you can usually find us at home brainstorming ideas for new drills, games and Catch!Cups.
Banks moved to Easton, Maryland in 2nd grade when his father retired and wanted to seek a life away from the big city "where men wore Bermuda shorts to lunch without wrist watches". What he found in Easton was what Lacrosse Magazine would later call "The Hottest Hot-Bed for Lacrosse in the Country". From the moment he stepped on the field he was enthralled. The sport combines so many elements of skill, strategy and athleticism that he was able to find an outlet for many the challenges growing up brings to the developing mind.
Skyler grew up on the Chesapeake Bay in Easton, MD and started playing lacrosse in first grade. The middle of three children, he was always playing catch, and developed a love for the game at an early age. He was fortunate to attend The McDonogh School in Baltimore, MD where he learned what it means to give your very best in everything you do. At Middlebury College he was a three-year starter, Academic All-American, 1st Team All-NESCAC, and Honorable Mention All-American in 2009. There, he challenged himself and formed lifelong friendships but, most importantly, he learned that there is nothing more rewarding than playing as part of a team.
We founded Catch! Lacrosse in March, 2014 in response to what we perceived to be a growing need in the world of youth lacrosse - fundamental skill development. Our idea was simple - let's start a program that isn't focused on winning championships or being the best individual team, but instead helps players develop knowledge of the game, improve communication skills (both on and off the field), learn how to work as part of a team, and how to handle adversity with confidence and integrity. To do this, we've developed our own unique approach to teaching the sport of lacrosse through high-repetition training in a small group setting. Whether you're just getting started or have been playing for years, we strive to give each player autonomy over the learning process through highly individualized instruction and new-look drills and games that force players to apply their skills in a dynamic learning environment.
We offer year-round training, monthly Catch!Cup tournaments, weekend camps, coach training workshops and school outreach programs all geared towards building a robust lacrosse community in Los Angeles and giving our student-athletes a truly unique educational experience. We are honored and humbled by the opportunity to make Lacrosse our life's work, and to work as a team to share our passion and collective experience with anyone who cares to listen. Please take some time to explore our site and, as always, feel free to reach out to share your story with us!
