The Inaugural Catch!Cup
Palisades Charter High School - June 22, 2014
We're proud to release our first series of video content on The First EVER Catch!Cup. Scroll down to see highlights, points leaderboard, and "MIC'D UP" with the coaches from our first Catch!Cup - June 22, 2014. A special thanks goes out to Mark Haddad and our friends at LaxRatz, whose "eye in the sky" allowed us to cover all three fields and give everyone a taste of the action. We hope everyone can make it to the next one but if you can't, we're hoping these videos will help you get an idea for what you're missing! Gimme 1 Clap!
A Division Leaderboard
Henry Bellet led the A Division with 6 points off 5 goals and 1 assist. He struggled early in the day and bounced back with some amazing plays in the Main Event and took home the "Most Valuable Teammate" award for his performance. Julian Andreone wasn't far behind - with a balanced performance of 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 total points. Julian set the tone for his team and made several nice setups that didn't translate to goals throughout the day. Rounding out the board are Caswell Friedman (3g,1a) and Eamon Gillen (1g,2a) who, together, propelled their team to the first Catch!Cup victory - proof that playing together will always beat an individual performance!
Congrats on your win!
B Division Leaderboard
The B Division was, by far, the most competitive group throughout the day, as 3 teams finished with a single point of each other. Ultimately Team 3 came out on top, riding the Cup's high scorer - Mikey Schwartz (6g,4a). He benefited from some strong play by his teammates - Charlie Gaffney, Zach Lifton & Colin Kneafsey and together they had a stellar day across all three games. Dylan Bissell (8g,1a) and Jake Tom (5g,4a) finished tied with 9 points apiece, but it was their teammate - Asher Barnes - whose hustle, determination, and strong groundball play earned him the B Division MVT. Xander Rosen (5g,3a) had a stellar performance in the Half-Court Fireball
arena to round out the top of the Points Leaderboard.
C Division Leaderboard
He came, he saw, he conquered! Bob Boone - who was present at the very first Catch! session over 2 years ago - took what he has learned through the Catch! curriculum and his own hard work and turned it into an absolute monster of a performance, netting 10 goals and assisting on 4 more for a whopping 14 total points! With his merry band of monsters in tow - Andrew Hong, Jack Safir and DJ Esposito - Team 3 took no prisoners and dominated all 3 games, culminating for a 6-goal outburst in the main event. Tadashi Butler was dominant - posting 10 goals...with a longstick...But the story of the day may have been the teamwork of Shane Bissell (8g,3a) and Johnny Bond (9g,3a) whose chemistry was evident from the very beginning and carried through to the final overtime goal to seal the win for the Blue Team in the Main Event. Johnny was awarded the MVT for his gutsy performance - well deserved!
All said, it was a special day of Lacrosse and a great beginning to a whole new tradition for Los Angeles lacrosse. The First Catch!Cup was a resounding success and we cannot wait for July 13 when we get to do it all over again. Catch On, Gentlemen!
